The Visas for GPs program will cease on 16 September 2023, removing the requirement for employers of International Medical Graduates (IMGs) to apply for a Health Workforce Certificate (HWC).

From 16 September, IMG’s looking to work in primary care within Australia will no longer be required to submit a HWC as a part of their visa application. Applications for a HWC will continue to be accepted until 5 September, and 13 September 2023 for a Health Workforce Exemption Certificate (HWEC). Any application on hand before these dates will be processed in line with the program guidelines.
